Spectranet continues to dominate the list of Internet Service Providers (ISPs) in Nigeria with almost half of the ISP market share in the country.
Internet Service Providers (ISP) are companies that provide access to the Internet to both individual and business customers. ISPs make it possible for their customers to browse the internet, shop and conduct businesses online, connect with other people around the world.
Modern-day ISPs are cable companies or mobile phone companies that offer internet subscription, besides television or mobile communications. Some ISPs provide added services such as telephone and television services, personal websites, while companies which started as cable companies also perform this function.
Breakdown
According to the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Spectranet has 247,635 active subscribers; the highest among ISPs in Nigeria. Tizeti and Astramix Limited are second and third on the list, with 29,917 and 15,000 active subscribers, respectively.

Points of Presence (PoP)
Points of Presence are access points or physical locations which ISP companies use in providing internet connections to its customers. Out of the combined 1409 PoPs belonging to 61 ISP companies in Nigeria, Spectranet has 629, almost half the total number of PoPs.
Location of Service Provider
While most ISPs in Nigeria have physical presence in one major state of the country, maybe two, Spectranet has in six major states in Nigeria.
Total Wireless Broadband Subscriptions
In 2019, Spectranet wireless broadband subscription of 246,308 accounted for 95.7% of the total wireless broadband subscription of 257,326. By 2020, Spectranet wireless broadband subscription of 247,686 accounted for 99.8% of the total 248,031 wireless broadband subscription for the year.
Number of Internet Users Through ISP
In December, 2020, the total number of internet users that connected through ISPs in the six geopolitical zones was 294,257, a 14.5% increase from the 257,085 recorded as of December, 2019. The South-West region had the highest number of internet users, with 223,036 users showing 76% of the total subscriptions. North Central region had 18% with 52,505 users; South-South region had 6% with 16,652users and North-West region had 0.3% with 866 users. The North-East and South-East regions had 0.22% with 667 users and 0.05% with 166 users.
