Global Gas Flaring Reduced in 2022 with Nigeria Making The Most Contribution

The publication by the Global Gas Flaring Reduction Partnership (GGFR) highlighted a noteworthy decline in global gas flaring during 2022, signalling a 3% decrease in gas flaring across the world. This reduction represents a positive step towards addressing the adverse impact of gas flaring on climate change and human well-being.

Nigeria, Mexico, and the United States emerged as key contributors to this decline, playing a vital role in reducing global gas flaring in 2022.

Nigeria made the most substantial global contribution among these nations by reducing its flare volumes by 1.3 bcm in 2022. This reduction signifies a 20% decrease compared to the flare levels observed in 2021.
