      Will the tension in Niger affect the French government and energy expectations in 2023? 

      The French company, Orano Group dominates the shores of Niger mine owning a larger % share of the 3 major mining sites In the nation. However, France recently claimed that it is not dependent on any country or site to ensure the security of supply for its power plants. 

      It is yet to be clear how France will operate its 18 power plants, and 56 nuclear reactors especially when 20% of its 88,200 tonnes of Uranium was imported from Niger in the last decade and also requires an average of 8,000 tons of Uranium to operate this nuclear per year. 

      As of 2023, Niger supplies France with 15% of its sourced Uranium and accounts for one-fifth of the EU's total Uranium imports.
